Toronto street furniture designers roll out the bins to winhttp://www.thestar.com/News/article/197233

While reading the Toronto Star today I came across an article talks about three companies that have put in bids for the to remodeling of the city. The city is planning on installing close to "25,000 items of street furniture on sidewalks."
The main thing being looked at are new benches, bus shelters, litter bins, and even public washrooms. This picture is one of the visions of the new public washroom.
I found this article interesting because we have already discussed public washrooms as a place and space. My question here is will these washroom be kept neat and clean? And will people actually want to use them once they have been around for a couple of years.... even weeks? I say this because I know that when i come across a public washroom that is not located in a building but is free-standing I don't even think of going in. For the most part the are way to dirty and gross.
What do you think?

Even in the city's attempts to put additional street furniture and washrooms to fulfill the publics needs, it will not serve its purpose without being vandalized, and kept clean. How would the city expect to keep the furniture and washrooms clean. Take a look at Yonge and Bloor subway station, they do have a washroom facility, yet it is beyond dirty. The daily useage, probably when it opened surpassed expectations, and they can no longer manage to clean or up keep the installments.
