Afghanistan Winning or Losing?

The media plays a large role in a North American’s state of mind and the way we perceive space and place. The way we view the world abroad, is greatly influenced by the media. This article shows us how over the past few years their has been a lot of dispute in Afghanistan, a place that I have never heard of in my life five years ago, before Americans began to bomb suspicious areas of the whereabouts of Osama Bin Ladin may be hiding. Since then, the media has shaped my perception about Afghanistan as a place through a North American perspective and my knowledge from the Media. They are a third world country, and are of the Muslim faith. Having little depth of information on this country, I would argue that having actually experienced a space or place rather than just seeing it on television or in the newspapers, would drastically change one’s perception of that place.
My personal geography is reflected by the experiences that I have accumulated from travelling and by the knowledge passed down to me from living my everyday life. Open-mindedness is the key to learning and understanding the various cultures of the world. The best way to learning about those places is by first hand experience.
