In the past, there have been several land disputes between the aboriginal people and the Premier Dalton McGuinty. The dispute, which surrounds a housing complex the natives claim is on their land. Treaties that existed in the past granted native people that space, which makes it awkward considering the government’s proposal to take it back without some form of compensation. Do treaties have expiry dates? I think not. The standoff in Caledonia prompted mass riots for occupying spaces that disrupted the “peace”. Which police were eventually called in. The road blockage created havoc for transportation since cars were forced to move around the blockage. So all this chaos, caused by the government not honoring their treaty, sound a little familiar? “A Map that Roared” by Mathew Sparke, is pretty much along the same lines. Both of the situations have previous land claims by natives, and both situations the government trying to overtake native claimed lands.
