Toilets

Well, we were talking about public washrooms, in regards to place, space, and scale, or whatever, and I thought it was true. It is a place, but unfortunately not because of toilets, which is the subject of this blog. I want to look at exactly what makes toilet stalls places - besides the physical function, what could be so human about crapping?

Its the mess that certain people make in the stalls that move them so intricately beyond mere spatiality. The poop disposal units are covered! Covered in words, which have the potential to be crappier than crap. So the graffiti is really dingy, tucked away in this nook of the building, it is full of special messages for anyone interested and perhaps brave enough to 'dump publically'.

These messages are the essence of the place, and it is a good thing to ponder, "who thinks of this stuff when they're crapping?" That was written in one stall I was at last week. About a month ago, I had taken another log... I recorded the entire conversation had by people who are fascinatingly strangers, yet intensely involved in discourse while likely involved in another intense activity. My computer-typed version is not as real, but this is what they discussed.

"9/11 was an INSIDE JOB!" "-TRUE"
"Cheney rook over NORAD two months before attack and ordered NORAD to stand down!!"
"Bush = 3rd Antichrist after Napoleon + Hitler"
"After Bush exits power the world will become an ocean of blood and all hell will break loose. WWIII 2010!"

"3rd? if you use biblical terms, at least use them properly. The bible speaks of one antichrist (Rev. 14) who will cause all men great or small to take the name, number, or mark of the beast. Any who refuse cannot buy or sell. (666 the number of the beast)
- The antichrist will have a global government (Rev. 13, 14), religion and monetary system.
- The only way to God is through his son Jesus Christ the way the truth and the life.
- Repent - The judgement is soon."

There must be some correlation between these kinds of words, and the clenching of fists and gritting of teeth. Angry fighting words about dark subjects and unpopular ideas can be found near the toilet... dialogues of the dia-logs.

Notice: what I just wrote WAS really gross. Now that you've read it (and if you happen to not like it), too bad. The bathroom stall writers share this same lack of sympathy.
