You Are Here; art exhibit

Those of you interested in the intersection between art and the city might find it worthwhile to check out Eastern Front Gallery's current juried group exhibit, "You Are Here: the emotional geography of place." From what I gather (information is rather sparse), the show will utilize mixed-media arts to explore one's "social, geographical, emotional" relationship(s) with the city. The official opening is this Saturday and the show will run until February 18.

I've always found art practices (visual, media, performance, literary, etc.) compelling entry-points into the urban landscape; not only do they constitute a vast part of how we come to understand of the places we inhabit, but I believe they are also incredibly powerful tools of resistance on a number of levels. They often have the potential to imbue a space with meaning, as well as suggest interesting ways we can reconfigure the tyranny of the oftentimes impersonal and alienating city.
