Soccer is one of the most popular sports in the world today, if not the greatest sport ever played, it is a non contact sport and people all over the world enjoy to watch soccer. The European Cup being one of the most popular events of soccer, only behind the World Cup. On the date of March 24th 2007, two soccer teams were scheduled to play against each other. Aegean rivals that are always fiercely contested, competing for a final spot in the Euro 2008 tournament in Austria – Switzerland. Greece VS Turkey the game which was held in Athens, ended in a win for Turkey 4-1. Many thought this would bring tremendous tensions between soccer fans. Before the Match had begun, foreign ministers from both sides attended the match and had a ceremonial welcome in front of many fans who applauded both ministers actions. Players from both sides exchanged banners of team logos and wished each other good luck. Thankfully no violence was reported between fans who attended the game from Greece. After watching the game on Satellite TV I thought it was a beautiful atmosphere, I believe that this article relates to space and place because the stadium created the mutual love and respect and the friendship on that chilled night in Athens. Hopefully more events can create electric atmospheres such as this event has and the two countries Greece and Turkey can keep and eternal friendship.
